How can I customize the columns on the Position Statement?

To customize columns, click the gear icon " at the upper-right of the Position Statement header. This opens the column-selection window. Choose the columns you want, arrange them in the desired order, and click OK to apply the changes.

You can also select the Restore button to return to your previous setup or the Load Defaults button to reset the column list to the platform’s default layout.

How do I use the Position Statement menu?

Open the [ Show actions menu in the upper-right corner of the Position Statement header. From this menu, you can:

  • Select New layout or Old layout to switch between display formats.
  • Turn on Show groups to display positions in grouped sections.
  • Check Merge similar groups to combine groups of the same type.
  • Click Add group… to create a custom group.
  • Select Group symbols by to group positions by Type, Industry, Capitalization, Account, or Spreads… (spread-based categories).
  • Click Arrange positions to sort positions by Instrument, Trade time, or Order.
  • Choose Reset columnsReset groups, or Reset sorting to restore the default column layout, grouping structure, or sort order, respectively.
  • Click Print now!, Print preview, Page setup, Export to file…, or Take screenshot… for different export and sharing options. 

These controls organize the Position Statement according to the grouping or sorting method you choose.

How can I set up my positions in custom groups?

To create a custom group on the Position Statement section, right-click any position and select Move to group, then select Add group…. When the popup opens, enter a name for the group and click OK.

To add more positions to this group, right-click a position, select Move to group, then choose the group name from the dropdown.

To modify a group, click the [ Show actions menu next to the group header and choose Move up, Move down, Rename group…, or Delete group.

To hide all groups, open the [ Show actions menu at the top of the Position Statement and clear the Show groups checkbox. To return to the default structure, select Reset groups.

How can I view P/L Percent or P/L Year on the Position Statement?

To adjust how P/L information appears in the Position Statement section, click " Setup in the top-right corner of the thinkorswim® window and select Application Settings…. In the window that appears, open General, then select Positions.

Under Position P/L layout, choose the desired display mode from the dropdown.

How can I view the purchase price and purchase date for my positions?

To review the details of a position, expand it on the Position Statement page and right-click the position row. Select View trades to open a window that lists the trade dates along with the trade prices for that position.

How do I view previous trades?

To review past activity, open the Account Statement page on the Monitor tab. Adjust the date range in the header as needed. Then expand the Trade History section or the Cash & Sweep Vehicle section to view your previous transactions.

How can I beta-weight my portfolio?

To beta-weight your portfolio, use the Beta Weighting checkbox in the Position Statement header. When activated, enter a symbol in the field that appears to set the benchmark used for beta-weighting.

How do I change the BP Effect column to show only the margin requirement?

To adjust this setting, open " Setup in the top-right corner of the thinkorswim® window and choose Application Settings…. In the window that appears, open General, then select Positions. Under Position Margin/BP Effect, choose Margin Req from the dropdown.

Why do my positions have a purchase price of $0.00?

A purchase price of $0.00 indicates that cost basis information might not be currently available for that position on the platform or is only available under Lot Detail. If you believe the cost basis should be shown, please contact Schwab Support for assistance.

How is P/L Open value calculated?

P/L (Profit/Loss) Open shows the unrealized gain or loss for a position based on the difference between its current mark and either the execution price or the cost basis, depending on your settings. By default, P/L Open is calculated using the execution price.

To change this setting, select " Setup in the top-right corner of the thinkorswim® window and click Application Settings…. Under General, choose Calculations, then adjust the P/L Open setting as needed.

What is Net Liq (Net Liquidation Value)?

Net Liq, or Net Liquidation Value, is the estimated value of your account if all positions were closed at the current mark price. It reflects the combined value of your cash balance and the marked-to-market value of your open positions.

The thinkorswim® platform calculates the mark price as the midpoint between the bid and ask for most products. Net Liq is displayed in the Account Statement section on the Monitor tab.

What is Strategy Roller?

Strategy Roller is a thinkorswim® tool for managing covered call positions by setting predefined rolling criteria. It generates rolling orders that move an existing covered call from one expiration to another based on rules you define, such as strike selection and timing.
